The context

I led a small team of designers and technologists to create an interactive experience for visitors of Labyrinth, located at the heart of Nuanu in Bali, immersing them in the rich local culture and the natural surroundings.

The approach

The result is an experience where fireflies guide visitors into a world of self-discovery and connection, inspired by the ever-present beauty of nature. When no one is on the entrance pathway, only a few fireflies gently flutter about, sparking curiosity. As visitors begin to walk, more fireflies appear, gathering around each person on the ground and leading them toward a circular portal that glows brighter as they approach, inviting them to continue exploring the space. We used LiDAR technology for movement detection, paired with two 4K video projectors to bring the fireflies to life, while controllable LEDs illuminated the portal and an ambient soundscape reacted dynamically to visitors’ movements and progression. The LEDs, soundscape and interactive content were all driven through TouchDesigner.

More than 180 visitors experienced the installation on opening night.
